It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Bonnie Jean Alvarado Gillis, who passed
away in her home the morning of September 12, 2025 at the age of 85.
Bonnie was born on May 9, 1940, in San Francisco, California to Alexander Edward Alvarado and
Alice Helen Villa. She grew up in San Francisco alongside her 3 brothers Freddy, Edward and
James, and her 3 sisters Dolores, Elenor, and Darlene. She went on to serve as a waitress for
over 25 years at El Charro Mexican Restaurant in San Jose, California. Bonnie was tough,
compassionate, sociable, and lively. All who met Bonnie immediately fell in love with her
personable and welcoming embrace. She will be remembered for her sassy one-liners, her
endless collection of books, the pride she had for her Native American heritage, her
graciousness, her close personal relationship with god, and the love she had for family.
Bonnie is survived by her loving children Teasha, Lora, and Darren. Her brother James and her
numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Though our hearts are heavy with such a
loss, we celebrate the life and love Bonnie shared with us all. And although her touch may now
seem distant her spirit and warm embrace will forever remain close to our hearts.
A funeral service will be held on Friday October 3 rd , 2025, at 12:00pm at San Andreas Memorial
Chapel in San Andreas, California.
