Brandt Lane Andahl
February 14, 1950 - January 27, 2025
Brandt Lane Andahl, a devoted follower of Christ and cherished life long resident of
Calaveras County, California, entered into the arms of his Savior on January 27, 2025,
at the age of 74. Born on February 14, 1950, in Oakland, California, to Wes and
Frances Andahl, Brandt faced early challenges with polio but lived a life of resilience
and faith, endeavoring never to be a victim. He embraced life fully and became a light
for the Lord, always an encourager.
Growing up in San Andreas with his twin brother Bryant and younger siblings Linda and
Mark, Brandt attended Calaveras High School. After Bryant's tragic passing in 1968,
Brandt set out on a journey of self-discovery, traveling east and working in the Florida
Keys before returning to California.
He held various jobs, from working at the Darby Apple Ranch, Bear Valley Lodge,
Department of Forestry (CDF) as warehouse assistant, Treats General Store and First
American Title. He later earned a degree from San Joaquin Delta College and worked
for Pacific Bell (AT&T) as a telephone operator for 15 years.
Brandt married Patricia Mendence in 1975, and they raised their sons, Jonathan (1980)
and Matthew (1984), in San Andreas, Stockton, and Burson. Though they later
divorced, Brandt remained a devoted father, instilling in his sons honor and good
character.
In time, Brandt found love again in Kathy McKinsey, charming her with his kindness,
chivalry, and comments like, "You look like Easter morning." They married in 2007 in
Valley Springs, sharing countless adventures and a deep love. He even grew to love
Kathy's Irish Wolfhound, Roch (while still avoiding him whenever possible).
After suffering a stroke in 2009, Kathy became his steadfast caregiver, tirelessly
supporting his rehabilitation for the next 15 years. Her unwavering love and care
allowed him to live with dignity and grace until his peaceful passing at home.
Brandt is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; his sons, Jon (Autumn) and Matt (Mitzi);
stepchildren Annie (Patrick), Jenny, Samantha (Cristian), and Josh; sister Linda (Derek);
brother Mark (Deb); and cherished grandchildren Cali, Brandt, Claire, Aurora, Brody,
Stofina, Marcus, Diesel, Elijah, and Aziel.
A celebration of Brandt's life will be held at San Andreas Community Covenant Church
(SACCC) on Monday, February 3, 2025 at 12:00 noon. Though he will be deeply
missed, his unwavering faith and love will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
"Well done, good and faithful servant" (Matthew 25:23).
