Floyd Winters Obituary

Floyd E. Winters (Sandy to family and friends), 80, passed away on January 31, 2024. He was born on
January 3, 1944, in Zanesville, OH to parents Melvin and Elsie Winters, both deceased. Sandy resided in
Valley Springs, CA with his wife, Betty Lee Winters, until her passing in 2021. They had 50 wonderful
years together.
Sandy is survived by five of his step children: Kathryn Babcock, Guy Meeks, Susan Chivers, Rebecca
Creely, and Michael Pennington, and by his brother, Doyle Winters of Tennessee. Two step children ,
James Meeks and Sarah Ross, preceded him in death. Sandy is also survived by many grandchildren,
great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Sandy served as an electrician in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and after, made his living as an
electrician at a glass manufacturing company in Hayward, California, living in Newark until his
retirement. Sandy and his wife purchased property in Mountain Ranch, CA, where they built their
retirement home on their hill and called it "Winters' Wilderness". They lived there after retirement
until all was lost in 2015 to fire. They settled in Valley Springs.
Sandy became a Master Mason in 1983 and was awarded the Calaveras Masonic Lodge "Mason of the
Year" and was presented with the "Hiram Award". He and Betty joined Eastern Star in 1984. They were
very active in these organizations, enjoying the friendships and activities. Sandy loved small engines,
specifically "Hit and Miss" engines, and was a "tinkerer" who loved to fix things.
Sandy was supported by VITAS Hospice in his final months.
Services will be held at San Andreas Memorial Chapter on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.
His final resting place will be Oaklawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Oakdale, CA.
In lieu of flowers, plant a tree in Sandy's memory. He loved his trees on Winters' Wilderness.
