John Raine Obituary

Sutter Creek resident John C. Raine passed away Thursday,
June 4th, 2026 in Modesto Memorial Hospital at the age of 86
after a short battle with cancer.
John was born December 10th, 1939, in Burbank, California
and raised in Stockton, California. He attended Linden Union High
School and San Joaquin Delta College. He served four years in
the Marine Corps PFC.
He and his late wife Alice moved to Valley Springs in 1980
where they volunteered with the California Striped Bass
Association, American Legion (Valley Springs), CSA-1 Rancho
Road Committee, the Calaveras Humane Society and the Good
Samaritan Community Covenant Church. John worked as a
forklift driver for several canneries until retiring in 2010.
John is survived by: sisters Kathi Hammett of Carson City
NV, Barbara Nuckols of Woodland CA, and brother Michael
Sudderth of Fiddletown CA; also stepdaughter Wendy Hausotter
of Depoe Bay, OR and granddaughter Kate Hausotter of
Cottonwood AZ; Nieces Andrea Erickson Carson City NV, Ehren
Martorella Portsmouth VA,Veronika Wright San Diego CA,
Monique Smith of San Jose CA; and nephews Jeffrey Hammett
Aptos, CA, Anthony and Barron Sudderth Lodi CA; and
Domenique Martorella of Portsmouth VA.
A private memorial service is planned for late September.
Memorial donations may be made in Alice and John Raine's
name to the Calaveras Humane Society or your local no-kill
animal shelter.
John's last request is that friends and family pause in prayer
and say, "Thank you Lord, John and Alice are now together
again".
