Raymond "Ray" Leroy Sutliff, a longtime resident of Dorrington, CA, passed away on February 28, 2024, at the age of 96. He was born in Oakland, CA in 1927. Ray served as a cook in the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II. He went on to work for the Boy Scouts of America with both the Los Angeles Council and the San Francisco Bay Area council and retired after 50 years of service. In 1989, Ray then moved from the bay area to Dorrington, CA with his wife Jackie. Many knew him as "Ray the Balloon Man," a business he started after moving to Dorrington. Ray was very involved in his community; he was a docent at Big Trees State Park and an active
member of Moose Lodge 1123 in Arnold, CA. He is preceded in death by his wife Jackie who passed away in 2002, and by a granddaughter who passed away in 2000. Ray is survived by his three children, daughters Kathleen Everett (Olsen) and Marlene Keven, and son Mark Sutliff; daughter-in-law Shelly; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
